"Anne Frank Remembered"

From “Anne Frank Remembered”

Overall I thought this documentary was very interesting and gave a lot of insight into who Anne Frank was and what she was forced to endure. This documentary was hard to watch because it was so descriptive.

One thing that stuck out to me was Anne Frank’s personality. She went through so much during her short life but she still had a pretty positive outlook on life. When she first had to move and go into hiding she kept writing to her friends “saying we will meet again” and she knew that in the future she wanted to become a writer. She was in hiding for years and was forced to live in horrible conditions because nobody was allowed to know she was there. The only contact she had with the outside world was a radio where she would hear about all the horrible things going on around her. The camps were so much worse than hiding. She had to go through all sorts of unimaginable torture and her mother and sister died and she thought her father died. That is something that nobody should ever have to go through, but she still remained positive and hopeful that she would survive.

Another thing that stuck out to me was how the people that were being interviewed kept referring to her as a caged bird. She was trapped and confined in many situations but wanted to be out in the world like a normal child. The cage changed from houses to camps, but Anne Frank was never able to escape the cage she was forced into.

  1. I agree that she did have a positive outlook on life. She tried her best to make it as normal as possible. She added photos to the walls around where they were hiding. She tried to make it as normal as possible. She even titled her diaries to Kitty so that it would feel like she was talking to a friend. Even after her family was taken she still had hope that she would be okay. This had to have been extremely difficult for her to deal with so young, losing the people she was closest too and knew her entire life.
